Life Is But a Dream- And So Is This Cream

When I walked into Lush for the first time at the young age of eighteen, my young small-town brain was instantly overstimulated by the barrage of natural scents and the generally appealing, yet undeniably hippie-inspired natural decor.

I wandered around the store, gazing at all the mystery rainbow colored bars and their scribble-fonted signs with squinted eyes as if I had no idea what soap was in the slightest. Natural skincare? I’d never heard of such a thing: the only lotions and soaps I’d ever really used had come from Dollar Tree, or Walmart at best. $11 for a bottle of shower gel? I may have been freshly eighteen, but I sure wasn’t born yesterday.

I wandered around the store, allowing curiosity and the occasional beckoning from a floor worker to guide my path to discovery. I ran my fingernails across the bath bombs, whiffed the perfumes, and cautiously tried one of the all-too-foreign “lotion bars,” but couldn’t have found myself less convinced. Sure, it all smelt good (for the most part), but why would I ever spend up to three times more money, for less product than what I could get at Target?

Then, before I could fully realize what was happening, they got me.

“Here, try this one!” the worker called to me, placing a tiny black tub of cream into my hands. “DREAM CREAM” was scribbled across the label in that familiar sloppy font; “Calming oat milk, lavender and chamomile ease and cool easily irritated skin.” I dipped a single finger and swiped a bit onto my arm. Instantly, I was in love.

Lush’s Dream Cream is a body lotion with ingredients such as rose, oat milk, cocoa butter, and tea tree oil, making it a gentle formula that is greatly soothing for irritated and sensitive skin. The product carries no heavy scent, smelling of a very relaxing and light blend of oat milk and lavender. It glides onto the skin like the finest, most time-extensively churned butter, leaving all dryness as just a figment of the past.

I’ve always endured a personal battle with managing my very dry skin. When I was a child, my OCD kept me washing my hands hundreds of times a day, to the point where my skin would be cracking and splintering with intense redness and bleeding. Of course, I also similarly found solace in the shower, the only place in the world where I’d convinced myself I was completely clean and free of germs. Needless to say, I provoked my poor skin so much, it dried out like the Sahara and quickly became my worst enemy. While I have stopped my recreational excessive-washing activities in recent years, my skin is still very prone to drying out, especially while working in a ceramics shop in the colder half of the year. But now, Dream Cream, has thankfully managed to make these issues a mere part of the past.

Though I admittedly don’t buy Dream Cream year round (I absolutely would if I could fund such an expensive addiction), the second October rolls around, I make sure to have a jar on my nightstand at all times. I use it practically every inch of my body: from my hands, to my legs, to my chest, to my face, to my feet, etc. It keeps my skin refreshed and healthy during the stressful holiday months, which makes this time of the year all that much more enjoyable. As I’ve also begun to get more tattoos, I’ve found that the Dream Cream formula is gentle enough to heal tattoos without drawing out pigments or inflicting additional trauma upon the skin. Essentially, Dream Cream is the all-in-one cream your skin has always desired.

Though Dream Cream is definitely a high-end product by typical lotion standards (the 8.4 ounce jar is sold for $30, while the 15.9 ounce jar is a whopping $40), it is an incredible product that my skin will forever be grateful for. Supporting a brand like Lush, who are grounded within good values and care about helping the planet, is also a benefit to trying Dream Cream for yourself; take pride in knowing your skincare is ethically sourced and beneficial to your body!

If I had to pick one skincare product to use/worship for the rest of my existence, it would without a doubt be Dream Cream. So, pick up an extra shift or two and grab a jar today. You’re only wrong if you regret it.
